Choosing Your Wedding Shoes
When you prepare for your wedding, one of the last things on your mind are your shoes. Most people will learn that traditional wedding gowns hide wedding shoes almost completely underneath the wedding dress. Therefore, it is understandable that the shoes might not be as much of a priority as items such as the hair or handbag. However, the shoes cannot be neglected.
Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping for wedding shoes:
Color
Your wedding shoes should match exactly (or very closely) the color of your wedding gown. Because the shoes are not seen very easily, it is okay if the color is a shade off. You will not, however, want to mix pure white shoes with an eggshell dress or visa versa. You will also not want to mix black shoes with a white dress, if you can possible avoid it.
Because there are so many variations on the color white, a good place to start when match shoes is with a simple pair of bleach white shoes. You can take your shoes to any shoe repairer or dying to have them custom dyed to mix the hue of your wedding gown. This process does not take long and is not very expensive - so make sure that you choose the dress first.
Style
The style of your shoes depends almost solely on your tastes. However, keep in mind that some terrains require different style of shoe. For example, if you are getting married outdoors and in the grass, you will likely want to avoid purchasing shoes that have heels. (Same for the wedding reception, if you plan on wearing the same shoes.)
When it comes to traditional styles of wedding shoes, there are many. Depending on the season, you may prefer to go with a pair of strappy shoes over a pair of closed toes shoes. You may also want to select shoes that match the style of your wedding dress, even though they may not be seen.
If you are wearing a short dress, then the style of the shoe is far more important. Because people will be able to see your shoes, you should take time to select the style that is both appropriate for your wedding and right with your tastes. Take a look through wedding magazines for more information on styles that match shorter wedding dresses.
Comfort
Because you will be in your wedding day shoes for many hours on end, it is important that you select a pair of shoes that is extremely comfortable and easy to maneuver in. There is nothing worse on your wedding day than feeling uncomfortable because your shoes either don't fit or weren't a good selection.
