Personal Story About Getting Married Outside

When I got married, I wanted nothing more than to wed my husband outside out our family's country house. Since I was a little girl, I had the whole scene planned in my head - where the isle would be, where the reception would be. I even knew where the dance floor and band would be and had the whole transition between wedding ceremony and reception planned to a T.

I had told my husband about my plans only a few times before we were engaged. From the onset, he enjoyed spending time with me and my family in the country and agreed that it would be an ideal place to be married - a homestead that our children would one day play in.

After my husband proposed in December, I decided that we could go ahead and get everything pulled together by the following May. Five months is short-notice for many locations in my town, but since I didn't have to book any rental space, all I had to worry about were the auxiliary things - band, chair rental, catering and decorations.

We got started drafting out our preliminary sketches of what the grounds should look like. We decided that we should be married in the garden underneath a tree that I used to swing in as a little girl. The reception would then take place closer to the pool area, but food would be set up around the yard so that guests would feel free to wonder.

About two weeks before the wedding, we were having torrential downpours. I began to get nervous about the fact that I had chosen to have an outdoor wedding. What would happen if it rained on my wedding day? My house wasn't large enough to host all of my guests - so the wedding ceremony and the reception would get drenched!

Alternatively, if the weather was tremendously hot or if there were bugs out, my guests would get uncomfortable. I was nervous and called local wedding planners to find out what brides traditionally do in this situation. One wedding planner suggested setting up a tent in advance, but it was important to me to be married actually outdoors, if it were at all possible.

When it came down to it, I had a tent stored on the side that I could set up the day before the wedding if I had to. There was actually no need - we were able to have the full wedding and reception outside under bright blue skies. It was the most memorable day of my life and I feel so lucky to have had such an amazing wedding day.
