Activities for Friends Coming in From Out of Town
Inevitably, you will have friends and family coming in from out of town for your wedding. While you want to show your appreciation for their presence, it can be tough to balance spending time with them and finalizing all of your wedding plans. Therefore, you should have a plan available for how to help your guests divide their time.
First, gather together some materials from your local tourism information booth for your guests. If you have time, ship off these materials to those guests that you know will be coming in from out of town. The materials and a friendly and kind way to let your guests know that you are glad they are coming and that you want them to make the most of their time here with you.
If you cannot have the materials delivered to your friends in advance, then make an effort to deliver them to the hotel where they are staying. Most wedding parties set aside a certain hotel where they encourage all guests to stay. Doing this helps you communicate directions and activities to your guests efficiently and easily. You can also usually get a discount.
Many brides also find that designating a local guest to be the official point-person for questions from out-of-towners helps your guests feel comfortable in their new environment. Pass around your point person's phone number and maybe even schedule an event whereby the point person shares information about your town with your guests.
The point person should have time to dedicate towards spending time with your guests. He or she should also know enough about your town so that he or she can answer any questions that may arise - from how to find the nearest convenience store to what to do with little ones. Be sure to thank your point person for all of his or her help, as this person will be instrumental in helping you and your family make your guests feel most comfortable in your town for your wedding.
Finally, if you can, be sure to set aside some quality time with those family member or friends who are particularly close to you. Even in the hustle and bustle of preparing and executing a wedding, it is important to honor those guests who have committed to attending your special day by spending time with them outside of the wedding. Plan a nice dinner or lunch with those people you would enjoy spending that special time with.
